Learning to See Through Perspective

Week 6 with Mr. Mark: Learning to See Through Perspective

Week 6 in Mr. Mark’s class was a big eye-opener for many of us learning to draw. This was the week we dove into perspective drawing,an important skill that helps turn flat drawings into something that looks 3D and full of life.

Perspective isn’t just about making things look smaller as they go farther away. It’s about creating depth and space on paper, making it feel like you could step right into the drawing. Mr. Mark, with his love for art and years of experience, showed us how to make our drawings more realistic and exciting.

We started with one-point perspective, where all lines go to one spot on the horizon, great for things like roads or buildings you’re looking at straight on. Then we tried two-point perspective, which uses two vanishing points and is great for drawing corners or angled objects, like the edge of a box or a building.

But Mr. Mark didn’t stop there. He also taught us about atmospheric perspective—how things get lighter and less detailed the farther away they are, just like in real life. He explained how using light and shadows can make your drawings feel more real and add emotion and depth.

The best part? We didn’t just learn the theory,we got to practice. We grabbed our pencils and sketched our own little worlds using the techniques he taught. The classroom was full of creativity and focus, and we all started seeing our art,and the world,a bit differently.

By the end of the week, we weren’t just better at drawing; we were thinking differently too. Mr. Mark showed us that perspective is more than just lines on paper,it’s about how we see and share our view of the world.

Now, every time we draw, we’re not just creating pictures,we’re inviting others into the stories we see in our minds.
